ISPO: pre-figuring the future of clothing industry?

ISPO event brings together every year all the key players in the sport business, brands, suppliers and retailers.

Despite the diversity of products and targets, big topics of the moment question the whole sector. The innovative and technological approaches developed by most brands are very much like experiences in the real world that could well inspire and nourish the fashion industry as a whole.

CHAPTER 1
SMART TRACEABILITY

Smart clothing is exploring new tracks. If health and safety remain relevant topics in this field, with ultra performant electronic components, sensors and geolocation, we see appearing new features that could exceed the field of sport. The traceability of our clothes and the data related to their life cycle could be implemented into electronic components - ever more thin and flexible, at each stage of its manufacture and consumption. According to Robert Lindner who gaves a seminar for OE-A (organic and Printed Electronic association) researches are going towards more diversified uses and technical supports : connected NFC tags, solar charging batteries, printable electronics become super discreet and textile compatible. Microchips could be implemented with information on production tracking, fiber performance and functionality, labels, manufacturing conditions, maintenance tips, recycling possibilities etc… readable by the end consumer. Communicating on the garment’s ID is one of the most interesting opportunity offered by smart technologies. And this, potentially applying to larger markets.
